No need for laughs or lectures, just keep walking and continue to enjoy the sights and sounds of Sin City on the Strip. These guys are a waste of time.

Hidden Vegas Gem: Pink Taco at the Hard Rock
3/19/10, 9:19 AM - Hidden Vegas Gems

While not really hidden, Pink Taco is a gem. Great food and a great atmosphere. The food is a California spin on traditional Mexican dishes. There never is a line, but it always seems to be packed. When they seat you, trying not go get the "park bench" seats which are with out backs on the immediate right when you walk in. Choose to sit around the bar or at least have a table that is backed up against a booth.

It is loud in Pink Taco, but that is what it makes it fun. It is a little tough to meet girls here, but the atmosphere sure beats the normal lame Mexican restaurants in other casino resorts on the Strip. It is a great place to start off the night.

Hit Happy Hour Monday - Friday from 4p-7p. 2-for-1 beers and half price appetizers.

True Vegas Advice: Think Before You Speak When Talking About Your Trip
3/18/10, 8:40 AM - True Vegas Advice

You made it home and youíre so excited to relay true tales of misadventure that you neglect to incorporate some basic storytelling structure. Remember, the stories need to have a beginning, middle, and end. If you donít think about what youíre going to say and how youíre going to say it, youíll lose your audience. Think before you speak, and take notes if you have to. If you spend a minute beforehand focusing in on what you want to say, youíll have them hanging on your every word.

Classic Vegas Mistake: Taking a Limo to the Airport
3/17/10, 1:41 PM - Classic Vegas Mistakes

It might take a little longer to get a taxi, but pass on the limo to the airport: your bankroll will appreciate it.

Classic Vegas Mistake: Not Realizing A Seat is Taken at a Table Game
3/16/10, 9:15 AM - Classic Vegas Mistakes

It is a packed Saturday night at the casino. You are searching for any open game under $50 minimums. You spot a open spot at a $15 game with a open chair and plenty of room. It seems to be to good to be true. Not to disturb the game, you quietly pull back the chair, sit down at the table, and put $100 on the table. The dealer is still finishing the deal and it takes about 20 seconds to pay out everyone.

The dealer then looks at you like your crazy and says that seat is taken and you can't play here. You look at her in confusion, I mean, you didn't see a reserved sign! She then points her finger to a small clear plastic chip that was placed on the open betting circle. She again says, "look, it is reserved". You get up from the table, shake your head in frustration and embarrassment. How are you supposed to see that? I mean it is a clear chip on a colorful table!

While this is not a casino policy, dealers sometimes mark the betting circle for one of their best tippers. For example, the player has to use the restroom and takes his chips with him. The dealer uses the clear chip from their chip tray, because they don't have anything else to use. The clear chip is typically used to separate stacks of 20 chips from each other.

So, if a spot on a table looks too good to be true on a busy night, be sure to check for the clear chip before you sit down.

Hidden Vegas Gem: The Peppermill
3/15/10, 9:58 AM - Hidden Vegas Gems

If you are on the north side part of the Strip and have a rental car, the Peppermill is a perfect coffee shop choice. The old-school Vegas favorite has your wings, nachos and quesadillas covered, but the breakfast items get the top billing starring the pancakes, omelets and waffles. What ever the time of day, you are bound to see people nursing a Peppermill Bloody Mary. These concoctions are justly famous for soothing the soulof late night casino refugees.

True Vegas Advice: Always Play at a Full Craps Table
3/14/10, 9:44 AM - True Vegas Advice

Craps should be used to settle all differences in the world. Youíll see the most culturally diverse groups of people celebrating together as they play. If they werenít playing craps, they could well be at one anotherís throats. This is the game to play with the boys: Youíre all winning and losing at the same time. Some of your best gambling stories will come from shooting craps.

The key to having fun at Craps is to play at a full table. Craps is a social game, and itís not nearly as much fun if thereís no one to talk to. Plus, at a full table it takes a long time for the dealers to pay out all the bets, so you wonít be playing as fast. Youíll extend the life of your bankroll, chat up the choice ladies, and get your share of ďfreeĒ cocktails. Plus, if you are being rated, it will make you look better in the playing tracking system.

Consider An Alternate Route When Driving to Southern California
3/13/10, 8:37 AM - True Vegas Advice

If you are heading to the San Diego/ Palm Springs area, you may want to take the Mojave Desert route. It is a little-known route that takes you through the desert, where there is no traffic so you can drive fast. As a bonus, there are some unbelievable views of the Mojave National Preserve and the Joshua Tree Forest. Take the first exit of I-15 after you pass over the California State line. Then follow signs to these small towns: Cima, Kelso, Amboy, Twentynine Palms, and Yucca Valley, until you hit I-15 again. Just make sure your gas tank is full, because there is precious little along the way.

Classic Vegas Mistake: Forgetting to Put Out the Do Not Disturb Sign
3/12/10, 7:42 AM - Classic Vegas Mistakes

Housekeeping starts at 9 a.m. in the morning. Each housekeeping is assigned between 15-17 rooms per day. They start knocking on doors around 9:30 a.m. If you don't have your Do Not Disturb sign up, your room will be the first to have the knock. This is not a normal knock, they knock with a key or a piece of metal, it is a high pitched knock - which is particularly annoying. After about 5 seconds of knocking they open the door and say "House Keeping". If you don't wake up by then, they turn on the lights and say "House Keeping" again. You try to say come back later, but with your cotton mouth and raging headache, you can barely make it out. You repeat it a couple of times but they can't hear you. So, now you get up out of bed, they spot your bed head and finally get the drift and shut the door.

Let your body rest and put your Do Not Disturb sign out. I can't tell you how many nice sleeps have been disrupted by Housekeepers. Don't let it happen to you.

True Vegas Advice: The 24-Hour Cafe is Always an Option
3/11/10, 8:52 AM - True Vegas Advice

You probably think of dining at a hotel cafe as a last resort dining option. While it may not offer a full-tilt dining extravaganza, youíll spend more time at your hotel cafe than you think due to its sheer convenience.

Any Meal at Any Time
Cafes serve up breakfast, lunch, and dinner items 24 hours a day. If you wake up late, you can still start your day with bagels, lox, and cream cheese.

Late Night Meals
Itís pretty much your only option after 11p.m. Since there arenít any clocks in casinos, the night creeps up on you pretty darn fast, meaning the cafe is the only place where you can end your day at 3:00 a.m. with bagels, lox, and cream cheese.

Convenient Alternative
The cafe is your de facto place to dine when youíre either too tired, hungry, or pressed for time to venture into Vegas madness. Itís located in the hotel, just steps away from your hotel room, and is easy, quick, and doesnít require fighting long taxi lines or melting away as you trudge through the desert heat.
